Car Insurance Audi (Car Insurance). What is the best wood for a sub woofer box?

What is the best wood for a sub woofer box? I am making my own speaker box so what would be the best wood for it? Thanks

MDF is indeed the usual choice. Hardwoods, no matter how heavy they are always have resonance problems, even Ironwood species like Lignum Vitae. You will NEVER find audiophile grade speakers built from solid hardwood, even the uber-expensive $100,000.00+ speakers. What you are seeing on them is veneer. Resonance is why. It's too complicated to get into here. While more acoustically "dead" MDF presents certain problems. Don't even think about getting it wet. It's basically a sponge. The end-grain (if you can call it that) tends to split when a screw is run into it no matter how much you pilot hole. I compensate for this when using screws by cross - doweling. There are also different grades. The grade commonly available from consumer lumber sellers is the least desirable lightweight grade. I use the heaviest, "tool grade," and it is indeed quite heavy - a sheet of 1" stock weighs close to 200 Lbs. Another problem is that it will break if you drop it. This is one reason why you won't see touring PA speakers made from it. They are made from Baltic Birch plywood. This stuff is the closest thing to Boiler Plate in the world of wood. It's heavier than common plywood and has much thinner and more numerous plys. It is, of course, more expensive and more difficult to obtain. But if you brace it heavily, an enclosure can be just as effective and non resonant as a "dead" enclosure made from MDF. On a few occasions I have made high-end subwoofers out of MDF with a layer of Baltic Birch laminated over it and a layer of 1/4" rubber sheet on the inside. That's a bit extreme though. However, weight is an important consideration in vehicles. Were I building an automotive speaker (I never do, I listen to talk radio in the car) I'd make it from Baltic Birch, brace it thoroughly and be sure to bolt it to the bodywork. Exotic hardwoods are the best for speaker boxes because of their weight, density, and durability. The only problem is that these are insanely expensive, and illegal in some cases. Please check federal and local import laws before ordering illegal hardwoods off the internet. 3/4 inch mdf (medium density fiberboard) is what is used by 90% of all car audio box builders. 3/4 or higher of mdf all day I agree with both previous answers, yes hardwoods do make the best boxes, but 3/4 inch MDF Medium Density Fiberboard is good as well, and cheap this is why most speaker boxes are made from MDF.

Audi . Small-medium length utes available in australia?

Small-medium length utes available in australia? Hey guys, I'm looking to buy a second hand ute, cheaply (as in, less than $5000 AUD, i mean CHEAP) but since i live in suburbia i can't deal with a really long ute- i need to parallel park! So if you know of any small-medium sized utes that you can drive in the city without being totally insane, that also costs less than $5000, that also won't make me look like a total tool in front of my real ute-driving mates (so, no, not the Suzuki Mighty Boy. That thing is ridiculous) Please list it here and I will me very grateful. Thanks car insurance.

Audi . How to Replace Softail Springer Front Brake Pads

Harley-Davidson Softail Springer motorcycles have a unique front end reminiscent of a motorcycle made circa 1948. While this front end may be a complicated-looking affair, fortunately, the brake system is fairly straightforward. The typical configuration for Springer front-end disk brakes is a single caliper with only one piston. The length of time to change out the pads on a Springer front brake should range from one to two hours, depending upon your skill level.
Difficulty:Moderately Easy
Instructions Things You'll Need
SAE socket set
Hex socket set
Phillips-head screwdriver

Step by Step :
1
Remove the hardware securing the brake reaction link with an SAE socket and a hex-head socket. Set the link aside.
2
Remove the upper mounting bolt and lower mounting pin on the caliper with a hex-head socket. Lift the brake caliper off the rotor and allow it to hang from the brake line.
3
Unscrew and remove the retainer screw from the inner brake pad. Drop this inner pad and pad retainer plate from the caliper.
4
Pull out the assembly consisting of the outer pad, spring clip and mounting plate from the caliper. Discard both of the old brake pads.
5
Re-assemble the outer pad, spring clip and mounting plate assembly using a new pad. Insert this into position within the brake caliper.
6
Position the inner brake pad (the pad with no insulator backing) into position within the caliper. Place the pad retainer plate into position and insert and tighten the retainer screw.
7
Place the brake caliper back into position and install the mounting hardware in reverse order of the earlier steps.
Tips & Warnings
Always replace brake pads on a rotor as a set.

After changing the brake pads, inspect the hydraulic fluid in the front master cylinder reservoir. Add DOT 5 silicon brake fluid to the full mark.

Pump up the front brakes before moving the motorcycle.

Audi . How to Replace the Front Brake Pads on a 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche

The brake pads on a 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche are the most frequently maintained part of the braking system, and the condition of the rotors and calipers can be checked while the pads are being replaced. Brake pads shrink over time; and when they begin to get too thin, a metal section is exposed, creating a high-pitched squealing sound whenever the brake pedal is depressed. As soon as that noise begins, make plans to replace the brake pads as soon as possible.
Difficulty:Moderate
Instructions Things You'll Need
Jack
Jack stands
Lug wrench
Socket wrench
Wire
C-clamp
Screwdriver (Optional)
Silicone grease

Step by Step :
1
Park the vehicle on a flat surface and set the parking brake.
2
Loosen the lug nuts on the front tire by turning a lug wrench 1/2 turn on each nut. Place a jack under the front of the truck in the center of the frame. Lift the Avalanche until jack stands can be placed under the front axle. Finish removing the lug nuts then remove the wheel.
3
Remove the two bolts holding the caliper in place. Inspect the caliper for damage then carefully hang it from the axle with a short piece of wire so the brake line doesn't get damaged. Inspect the rotor for damage.
4
Press in on the brake pad with a C-clamp to fully compress the piston underneath. Pull up and back on the clips that hold the brake pad in place. Remove the brake pad. If the pad is stuck, carefully pry it loose with a flat head screwdriver.
5
Dab a small amount of silicone grease on the back of the new brake pads and put them in place. Push the retaining clips closed until they snap into position.
6
Reassemble the brake assembly by reversing the steps above. Put the wheel back on the axle and tighten down the lug nuts most of the way. Repeat with the other wheel.
7
Remove the jack stands and lower the Avalanche to the ground. Climb in the vehicle and press the brake pedal three or four times to seat the pads.

As Chapter 11 explains, every vehicle has ball joints and tie-rod ends that contain grease to protect the moving parts of the steering and suspension systems from rubbing against one another. Without this grease, the friction would cause the parts to wear away. On some vehicles, all or some of these grease fittings are designed for lifetime lubrication, which means that the grease is pumped in and sealed so that it can't get out. Because this kind of sealed system also prevents dirt, air, and water from getting in, these lifetime lubrication systems seem to last pretty well, and you don't have to lubricate them yourself, ever. Of course, if they break down, installing a whole new part is a bit more expensive, but they don't break down very often. If your owner's manual tells you that your vehicle has one of these systems, be happy, skip the rest of this section, and go on to "Lubricating the Suspension System." If your vehicle doesn't have lifetime lubrication, take a close look at the ball joints that are the scene of the action for most lube jobs. ^ar m ?/. 0 ^art'"' ^eeP'n9 ^our ^00(' Condition, System by System Anatomy of a bait joint 767 Car Insurance 2001 volvo s80 t6asedan4d 498770

Each ball joint has two basic parts: a rubber, ball-shaped boot and a little metal nozzle called a zerk fitting (see Figures 16-2 and 16-3). The boot holds the grease, and the zerk fitting lets the grease into the boot and keeps it from getting out again. Figure 16-2: A tie-rod end zerk fitting. Figure 16-3: A zerk fitting on a ball joint. Most ball joints are sealed in the sense that the only place for the grease to go in and out of the joint is through the zerk fitting. If you fill this type of joint too full, the boot will burst and have to be replaced or lubricated more frequently. Other ball joints are designed to allow the grease to escape so that the new grease you insert pushes the old grease out the other end. Check under your vehicle to see which type of ball joints you have. If you aren't sure whether those gooey ball joints are sealed ones that have burst or the kind that are supposed to have a back door, your auto dealer can tell you.

Figure 16-4: Some of the places to look for grease fittings on your car. . Chapter 16: Lubrication Extends the Life of Your Vehicle \f\ 7 Here's another way to tell what kind of ball joint your vehicle has: If only one of the ball joints has a mound of grease coming out of it when you put the new grease in, it's probably a sealed joint that has burst. If they all tend to leak grease when you add more, they're probably supposed to do so. Some vehicles come with plugs on the ball joints instead of zerk fittings. You can replace the plugs with zerk fittings by unscrewing the plugs and screwing in the fittings. The fittings then become permanent fixtures on the ball joints, and you can throw the plugs away (or save them for a rainy day).

Finding the tube points Now that you know what the ball joints are, what they do, and how they work, you're probably thinking, "Fine! But how do I find the ball joints on my vehicle?" Here's where to look: Before you go down to the service station, try to find the ball joints yourself by looking under the front end of your vehicle. Trace the bar that runs from one front wheel to the other. Grease fittings are usually found at the base and top of the arms that attach your wheels to the steering linkage (these are the steering knuckles) and at the center of the steering linkage where the tie rods meet the center. Some cars have as many as eight or ten of these fittings. Others have none. Most have four to six. See Figure 16-4 for a few of places you can expect to find
